Ethos

The courses on offer are all based on the educational values of inclusiveness, inter-disciplinary reach, an appeal to learning styles to ignite the 'fire', and provision that is flexible and supportive.

Leonardo da Vinci attributed his accomplishments to the concept that he called saper vedere, or what we might call today ‘visual intelligence.’ I have been teaching children from the KS2 to A-level the unique skills that visual learning confers – teaching the brain to recognise and seek out levels of nuance and information that come with consciously and carefully cultivating the skills of assessing, analysing, articulating and applying their understanding of art and its contexts. This is found in English, art, graphic novels and film.

I believe, like Leonardo, that the inspiration to create and learn is also about discovery, whether it is in the an online lesson, face to face, in a museum or through our involvement in wider activities. I have particular interests in student mental health and specific learning needs and the development of the student as a whole and believe that academic success is rooted in a broad spectrum of activities and opportunities that stem from discovery in this broadest sense.

Arts Discovery brings together my experience of approaching 20 years teaching to inspire a creative approach to learning, while trying to keep the cost as reasonable and accessible as possible. Click the links below to explore these further.
